Art - Art History
Bachelor of Arts in Art History
The bachelor of arts in art history offers a solid liberal arts education combined with extensive coursework in art history and criticism. An internship is a central feature of this degree. Students graduate with general knowledge of the major artistic and architectural movements of the past, and a familiarity with the principal artists and traditions of Modernism and contemporary art.
Thaw Art History Center
The art history program at the College of Santa Fe can be found at the Thaw Art History Center. The Thaw Center is a unit of the Art Department founded in 1998 and focusing on the Art of the Americas, with special emphasis on the art of ancient Mesoamerica, the ancient Andes of South America, Latin-American art, Native-American art, and the art, architecture, and design of American Modernism. The single area focus of the Thaw Center is unique in American art history education, and it fits the college's small size and its location in the American Southwest. Ours is a region where modern US culture meets Mexican and Native-American traditions. Although our faculty focuses on Arts of the Americas for their own research, we offer many courses in broader art history, from surveys of world art and European Modernism to classes in art since 1945 and issues in contemporary art.
Thaw Art History Center Lecture Series
Throughout the school year the Thaw Center invites art historians, art critics, and archaeologists to speak about their work to our students, faculty, staff, and to the Santa Fe community.
