Education
The mission of the Education Department is to prepare excellent educators and counselors, thus continuing the Lasallian Tradition on which the College was founded.
We commit ourselves to this mission because we seek to improve the quality of education and to increase educational opportunities. We base our decisions on the College’s core values of student centeredness, creativity, character, culture, civic capacity, and shared governance.
As part of a living tradition, the College of Santa Fe is based on a vision of education begun by St. John Baptist de La Salle in 17th Century France.
De La Salle’s educational vision and mission emerged from his concern for the neglected children of the working class and the poor.
He envisioned school as the ideal context for them to acquire the skills they would need to be saved from the hopelessness of their condition and to grow in dignity as children of God. De La Salle also established programs for working teenagers, students with special needs, delinquents, and even adults who were served through programs for training teachers for rural schools.
