Politics
At CSF, we do not believe in a dispassionate politics as science, which seeks merely to understand what is. Rather, we believe in pursuing the knowledge of what should be.
As activists, we must move beyond the study of government and explore social, cultural and economic critiques of the status quo. We must transcend the hierarchical and bureaucratic structures of decision-making and explore alternatives.
Students majoring in politics have the opportunity to explore the full range of their intellectual interests, to minor in one or more disciplines, and even pursue a second major.
The politics program is strong in political economy, political theory, law, Latin American studies, and environmental politics.
Students with a B.A. in politics have gone to law school and graduate studies in a number of social science disciplines, and to careers in public service, broadly understood.
