Athletics - Baseball
Taylor Gantt is in his fourth year with the College of Santa Fe, but first as head baseball coach. Appointed in October 2007 out of the Admissions Office, Gantt began furiously recruiting for the new baseball program before his position was even made official.
He is a native of Denver, CO, and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. After a successful high school baseball career where he experienced playing in a state championship game, Gantt attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD. He started in 167 of 172 games over four years, missing four games for the birth of his son. His tireless work ethic and ability to stay healthy contributed to him becoming a staple on the left side of the infield for his entire collegiate career.
While a player at Dakota Wesleyan, Gantt collected a wall full of individual awards, including a 2nd Team All-SDIC award in 2000 and an honorable mention All-GPAC award in 2002. In addition to his all conference recognitions, Gantt was a two-time recipient of peer elected awards for Defensive Player of the Year in 2000 and 2001 and Hustler of the Year in 2000 and 2001. But, despite the individual awards, Gantt is most proud of being co-captain of Dakota Wesleyan’s first conference championship team since 1919.
As an assistant coach at Dakota Wesleyan in 2003 and 2004, Gantt continued to make his mark on the entire baseball program. Responsible for recruiting and defense, Gantt’s impact contributed to the highest team fielding percentage in school history. In addition, many of Gantt’s recruits became the foundation for the championships teams of 2004 and 2005, in addition to the 2006 team that saw the schools first MLB draft pick at DWU.
Gantt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Dakota Wesleyan. In addition, he holds an MBA certificate from Tulane and a Master of Business Administration from College of Santa Fe. He and his wife, Rachel, and their three children (Erin, 9, Aidan, 7, and Cameren, 2), and two dogs, Bailey and Shelby, live in Santa Fe.
