A Sizzling Success

Roast of President Kirk "Well Done!"

Mother Nature turned up the heat on May 31, as a crowd of 100 gathered on the patio at Rio Chama Steakhouse to sip cocktails and prepare for the roast of CSF President Stuart Champion Kirk to benefit the college. The bar was lined with martini glasses ready for the libation of the evening, the "Sizzle," a tasty mix of vodka, Cointreau and pomegranate juice with a twist of lemon, a drink that lubricated bidding on the auction items.

The evening began in earnest when guests sat down in the President's Room for dinner. Master of Ceremonies Paul Margetson took charge -- at least to the extent possible, given the nature of the event. The laughter began with Brother Don Mouton's "well done" invocation. An animation by CSF faculty member Brad Wolfley welcomed the audience to "Stuart Kirk’s Big Weenie Roast." Four surprise guests wearing Prairie Dog masks proved to be President Kirk's four adult children.

The roasters, David Chase, C.T. Herman, David Dodge, Al Lucero, Brenda Yates and Doug Schwartz, skewered mercilessly. Imposed costume pieces left President Kirk looking sometimes like a Napoleonic admiral and sometimes like Captain Kirk of the Starship Enterprise. Although he was not present live and in person, the faithful presidential dog, Pablo, was frequently mentioned.

In the end, with the assistance of faculty member David Grey, President Kirk had the last laugh. And the event raised over $25,000 for the college.
