Young Mother Walks So Others May Live: Bryant Leads Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Albuquerque
Tina Bryant will lead the College of Santa Fe – Albuquerque walkers on Sunday, April 27th 2008, starting at 8 a.m., Cottonwood Mall, in a walkathon of 3-5 miles to raise money for the American Cancer Society. She walks so that she and other young mothers like her will not only survive breast cancer, but thrive beyond the surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. More

Two CSF Students Receive Hillerman-McGarrity Scholarship in Creative Writing
Rebecca Podos and Tamara Bryan, both seniors in the College of Santa Fe Creative Writing & Literature Department, received Hillerman-McGarrity Scholarships in Creative Writing for 2008. The recipients were honored at a reception earlier this month. Rebecca won for her story, "Bottomland," and Tamara for her story, "Carbon." More

CSF Unveils Mascot Design
CSF unveils its fighting prairie dog mascot today in concurrence with a site visit by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Students, faculty and staff will celebrate the regional critter's identity by donning t-shirts with the new icon, and the campus will be covered with posters and flyers to officially unveil the mascot design. David Scheinbaum returns to CSF To Head New CSF Photography Department and Marion Center for Photographic Arts
Citing faith in and admiration for the new creative arts focus at the College of Santa Fe, award-winning photographer and professor emeritus David Scheinbaum has agreed to come out of retirement to return to the Marion Chair of Photographic Arts and directorship of the Marion Center, both roles he held for many years while at CSF. In addition, Scheinbaum will chair the newly formed Photography Department, which will become a separate academic entity from the CSF Art Department beginning in fall 2008. More

Undergraduate Film Student Nominated for Independent Spirit Award Erin Fisher co-wrote and stars in "Mumblecore" Hit Quiet City
Erin Fisher, a senior in the College of Santa Fe Moving Image Arts Department, is up for the John Cassavetes Award at the 2008 Film Independent's Spirit Awards. Fisher, who stars in Quiet City, shares writing credit with the film's director, editor and primary screenwriter Aaron Katz, as well as her co-star Cris Lankenau. The Cassavetes Award is given to the best feature made for a budget under $500,000. More

CSF Hires Three Coaches
In preparation for the return of athletics in Fall 2008, CSF has hired three coaches for the NAIA Prairie Dogs: a head men's soccer coach, a head men's and women's tennis coach, and head women's soccer coach who will also serve as director of soccer. All three coaches started on February 4. More

Santa Fe Film Festival to Showcase Six Short Films Made at New Mexico Filmmakers Intensive
Six short films made during the inaugural year of CSF New Mexico Filmmakers Intensive (NMFI) will be screened at the Santa Fe Film Festival which runs November 28 - December 2. NMFI, a program of the college's Moving Image Arts Department, is a one-year post-baccalaureate certificate program for producing, directing and screenwriting. College of Santa Fe Sharpens Its Focus as a Creative Arts College

CSF president Dr. Stuart C. Kirk announced today that he is recommending the college concentrate on its role as a creative arts college and a key educator of working adults by reducing the number of liberal arts degree programs offered.

"As a key institution in the cultural and intellectual enrichment of Santa Fe and northern New Mexico, we're charting a positive course for the future," said Dr. Kirk. "By focusing on our major strengths in these two areas, we can secure our niche in a competitive educational market and respond to the enrollment trends of our students in order to grow our institution for the future."
