Guidelines for Journalists

These guidelines are for members of the news media who would like information about the College of Santa Fe. It includes contact names and information about interviewing students, faculty, and staff on our campus.

The College of Santa Fe respects members of the news media, their rights, and their interest in our institution’s vibrant educational community. The College of Santa Fe is a private campus, and our media guidelines are designed to be responsive to journalists’ requests for freedom of access while also minimizing disruption of educational activities. Most importantly, our guidelines focus on student, faculty, and staff safety and their right to privacy.

Communications Office for the College of Santa Fe

Members of the media who want to visit our campus or interview students, faculty, or staff, must contact the communications office for permission, guidance, and escort requirements.

Media Conduct on Our Campus

All members of the news media interested in attending events, capturing images on campus, or arranging interviews with students, faculty, or staff must first contact the communications office.

Members of the news media must respect the safety and right to privacy of all students, faculty, and staff. We expect news media to respect the rights of students to decline to be interviewed or photographed. Members of the media may not capture photographic or video images or audio of students without written permission from individuals involved. News media are not permitted to enter classrooms, libraries, or other interior spaces without securing advance permission from the communications office. News media are not permitted to enter campus residential living areas at any time. Media granted permission to enter the campus must clearly display valid credentials at all times.

Media Attendance at Campus Events

Some events held at our college are open only to members of our campus community. When we hold an event that is open to the public, print journalists are welcome to attend and must visibly display valid press credentials. Broadcast and photo journalists must obtain permission from the communications office to attend and to videotape or photograph the event, and/or students, faculty, staff, and guests attending the event.

Filming and Photographing on Our Campus

The College of Santa Fe campus—all of its buildings, facilities, and grounds—are private property. To ensure the safety and right to privacy of all of our students, faculty, and staff, members of the news media must contact the communications office for permission to take photographs or film the College of Santa Fe campus, students, faculty, and staff.

We ask that members of the media respect the right of our students, faculty, and staff not to be filmed, photographed, or audio taped without first getting their explicit, written permission. Students, faculty, and staff must have written details about what is being filmed, and how their photograph, video, or audio tape might be used.
