Teach-Out Information and FAQ's

The College of Santa Fe continues to focus on protecting the interests of our students. Therefore, plans remain for teaching out programs for current students; new enrollments are not being accepted at this time.

Former Student Information:

Following the completion of the Summer 2009 semester, CSF is not enrolling new students. Former CSF and CSFA students who did not complete their degrees and who meet certain criteria are eligible to be in the teach-out (see criteria below). In a teach-out, students take equivalent remaining courses for their CSF degree at another accredited institution within a one-year period, and receive a CSF degree.

CSF has arranged formal teach-out arrangements with three schools: The University of New Mexico (UNM), the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), and Columbia College (CCC).

FAQ's for Current and Former Students

Q: What is the "teach-out"?

A: In a teach-out, eligible students take equivalent remaining courses for their CSF degree at another accredited institution, and if they successfully complete their degree program within a one-year period, they receive a CSF degree.

The teach-out semesters are the period of CSF's teach-out accreditation, summer 2009, fall 2009, spring 2010 and summer 2010.

Q: May I still apply to be a teach-out student?

A: No, the deadline for application was May 7, 2009. The Higher Learning Commission specified that CSF could not add any students to the teach-out after the end of May.

Q: I completed my teach-out courses, what do I do now?

A: Once a student has completed their required credits to meet their degree requirements, an official transcript, with the posted grades must be sent to the College of Santa Fe. It is the student's responsibility to request the transcript be sent to the College of Santa Fe, 1600 St. Michael’s Drive, Santa Fe, NM 87507 within two weeks after your grades are posted. After November 30, 2010, transcripts will no longer be accepted and your degree can not be posted.

A: Completion of your remaining degree coursework credits within the one-year time limit specified by the Higher Learning Commission. Coursework must be completed by August 15, 2010.

Any student who, for any reason, is unable to complete their coursework credits within the year will not receive a CSF diploma. There are no exceptions possible.
