New Freshman Merit Scholarships

CSF offers a variety of scholarships to high school students who have demonstrated academic excellence through documented ACT/SAT scores, leadership and community service. Our expectation is that these special students will also contribute positively to the college community.

These scholarships do not require an additional application. Simply apply for admission to the college and submit your ACT and/or SAT scores.


The President's Merit Scholarship ($1,500 - $9,000) is an annual scholarship for up to four years, awarded on the basis of outstanding achievement (ACT/SAT scores)t, for freshmen admitted to the traditional program. Careful consideration is given to the student's academic credentials, extracurricular achievements and community involvement. Scholars must maintain a 3.0 GPA or above at CSF and complete 24 credit hours per academic year to retain eligibility for this scholarship.

Dean's Merit Scholarship (up to $7,000) is an annual scholarship for up to four years, awarded on the basis of academic achievement (ACT/SAT scores), for freshmen admitted to the traditional program in a non-creative arts major. Scholars must maintain a 2.75 or above GPA at CSF and complete 24 credit hours per academic year to retain eligibility for this scholarship.

Christian Brothers Grant (up to $6,000) is a yearly scholarship awarded to freshmen from outside the state of New Mexico who are admitted to the traditional program. Scholars must maintain satisfactory academic progress and retain primary residency outside the state of New Mexico to satisfy eligibility for this scholarship.

Academic Achievers Award (Up to $7,000) is an annual scholarship for freshmen who have been admitted to a creative arts program (Moving Image Arts, Creative Writing, Performing Arts, Contemporary Music, and Visual Arts) and have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. Scholars must maintain a 2.75 or above GPA at CSF, complete 24 credit hours per academic year and continue to major in a creative arts program to retain eligibility for this scholarship.

CSF Endowed Scholarships

Endowed scholarships are scholarships established by alumni, parents, community members and community businesses, just to name a few.

The donor lets CSF know the criteria for their scholarship donation. This group of scholarships are generally not renewable each year and do require the scholarship application below as well as a written letter stating your accomplishments and goals.

Talent Awards

Talent Awards require more than the admissions application. Please contact the academic department or your admissions counselor for additional assistance.

Visual Arts Talent: Portfolio review required (slides, photos or CD of 10-20 pieces).

Performing Arts Talent: Audition required for admission into program and scholarship (contact the department for details).

Moving Image Arts Talent: All applicants must submit an image (any image) that they have found or made and write no more than 250 words (typed, double spaced) explaining why they find the image compelling.

Contemporary Music Talent: Live audition/interview required.

Creative Writing Talent: Submit 5-20 pages of your best writing in the following genres: poetry, fiction, personal essay, script-writing. Submit in one genre or a combo of some or all.

Photography/Documentary Studies Talent:  Award applicants should submit a written essay (no more than 250 words typed double spaced) or an audio cd/tape/mp3 (no longer than 3 minutes) addressing the importance/influence of the subject to their life and future goals. Applicants should also submit a portfolio of approximately 20 photographs on a CD or a three to five minute DVD.

English Talent: Submit your best essay-writing, no more than 15 pages (could be one essay or several shorter ones).  Types of essays to submit (you can submit both kinds or one kind): a) academic essays on any aspect of literature; b) personal essay, with or without a research component.

Athletic Talent: Submit game tape or a highlight compilation showing athletic achievement. An interview with the appropriate coach is required.
