Financial Services - Student Employment
To supplement other forms of financial aid and to meet out-of-pocket expenses, qualified CSF students can also take advantage of programs that allow them to work on campus.
The Federal Work-Study Program
This program allows students to earn money by working on campus. Work-study earned will go directly to students for personal use. The FAFSA must be completed for this program. You can learn more about the work-study program here: Federal Work-Study.
The New Mexico Work-Study Program
This program allows New Mexico students to earn money by working on campus. Work-study earned will go directly to students for personal use. The FAFSA must be completed for this program.
The College Service Award
For those who do not qualify for the federal work-study program but wish to earn money by working on campus, CSF offers its own award program. Awards typically allow students to work for five to ten hours per week at approximately $7 per hour.

Credit Requirements
Students who have been awarded any type of work-study must be enrolled in at least 6 resident instruction credits as an undergraduate per term.
Types of Jobs
A wide variety of on campus jobs are available. Some examples are clerical, data entry, computer lab assistant, photo lab assistant, general labor, technician, fitness center assistant, Student receptionist, and data analyst.
How You Are Paid
Students working on campus will be paid by check and the student determines how to use the funds to pay educational expenses. Students may wish to enroll in Direct Deposit into the student’s personal bank account. The student is paid for the hours worked and pay periods are every two weeks.
Pay Rate
Students employed by CSF will be paid an hourly rate based on the duties and responsibilities of the position. All student wages, including work-study, are subject to federal and state income taxes.
Direct Deposit
CSF strongly recommends students enroll in Direct Deposit ensuring funds are received on time and directly into the student’s bank account. While local banks will be more than happy to open accounts, students who already have bank accounts at home may link their direct deposit.
To enroll, students need to provide a voided check along with the Direct Deposit enrollment form which is included in all new student employee packets, but may also be picked up at the Student Employment office or at the Cashier’s Office. Please be aware that it generally takes 2 pay periods (30 days) for direct deposit to start from the time of submitting the paperwork. Actual paychecks will be cut in the meantime and will need to be picked up at the Cashier’s office.
Student Employment Process
Once the student’s eligibility for student employment has been determined, students may apply for any of the jobs listed on campus. These listings are posted in the Student Service Center. Each listing indicates the name of the interviewer, the department, and his or her telephone number.
Students must call the interviewer and make an appointment, receive an interview, and be hired by the interested department. When they have completed the interview and hiring process with the department of their choice, they then return with the completed Student Employment Authorization form to the Student Employment Office to fill out a W-4 employment form for tax purposes.
All employees must also have their eligibility verified for employment through the completion of an I-9 form. Once all forms are completed they are able to begin work.
