Health Services

CSF’s Health Services Center is committed to promoting a healthier campus by providing access to comprehensive health care for the students, faculty, and staff of College of Santa Fe, and by educating members of the CSF community about healthy lifestyles.

CSF contracts with Presbyterian Medical Services (PMS), a local non-profit organization, to provide medical and behavioral health services for all of our students. Our Health Services Center has a full-time physician assistant, one full- and one part-time mental health therapist, and a substance abuse counselor.

Services

Some of the services we offer include:

CSF students have unlimited access to Health Services during office hours. A nationally certified physician assistant (PA) is in the health center during office hours to provide exams, treatment and health counseling. If the PA feels that a physician’s experience is needed, arrangements will be made for the student to be seen by a physician. Students may also seek care from a physician at the local urgent-care facility near St. Vincent Hospital. When a student seeks or is referred to services off-campus, the student will be responsible for any charges.

Students are encouraged to schedule appointments; walk-ins will be seen as soon as possible after those students with appointments. Appointments may be arranged for longer exams, such as pelvic exams, physical exams, HIV testing, etc.

Hours

During the school year, the Health Services Center is open Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Hours change for holidays and conferences; these changes are posted on the clinic door, e-mailed to students and faculty, and stated on the clinic’s voice mail system.

After Hours and Weekends

Outside the clinic hours and on weekends, students should contact the RA on duty at (505) 577-2539 or (505) 577-8120. If contact cannot be made with an RA, contact Campus Security at (505) 424-5000.

Students may also contact the Crisis Response Hotline at (505) 820-6333 for a behavioral health emergency.

For severe injuries or illnesses, call 911 (on campus, dial 4-911).

In case of emergency or significant illness students should go to:

St. Vincent Hospital Emergency Room
455 St. Michael's Drive
(505) 995-3934

Resident students should notify their RA and/or Campus Security prior to going to the ER and should follow up with the Health Center the next business day.

In case of minor injuries, Resident Advisors have first-aid kits and are first-aid certified.

The Health Services Center will not issue excuses for class absences.

Medication

Limited supplies of over-the-counter medications are available from Health Services. If prescription medications are prescribed by the PA, it is the student’s responsibility to fill and purchase the medication at a pharmacy. Students who have prescriptions from a physician or psychiatrist for psychotropic medications should make arrangements for refills for the first three months of school. Authorizing new prescriptions requires a visit and evaluation from a psychiatrist which can take up to 4-6 weeks.

Fees

All examinations and a limited number of laboratory tests done in the Health Center are free for full-time traditional students. Lab tests that are more involved, HIV tests, x-rays and all medications needed to treat illnesses or injuries are the responsibility of the patient. Students referred to practitioners off-campus are expected to use their health insurance to facilitate payment directly to the practitioner.

Confidentiality

All services provided and health records fall under the federal guidelines established by HIPPA.

Student Health Insurance

Full-time students and students who live on campus will automatically be billed and enrolled in the college’s health insurance plan approved by CSF unless they show proof of current coverage that is accepted in the state of New Mexico.

For more information about student health insurance or other heath services issues, contact the Dean of Students Office at (505) 473-6221 or deanofstudents@csf.edu.
